About Melissa
Thanks for coming to the RIVERFORK site. My name is Melissa Dutmers, and I’m the creator and writer here. I’m married to ‘the fisherman‘, I’m a writer, blogger, business coach, entrepreneur, dedicated equestrian, and lover of dogs. I live in a lovely town called Fort Collins, located on the front range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. When I’m not online or riding my horse, I enjoy dining in Old Town, sipping New Belgium brews, mountain biking, writing, admiring old barns, and well, just livin’. I’m known to remind the fisherman,
“I’m a simple girl really. I don’t want diamonds; I just want another horse.”
Background
Prior to founding RIVERFORK, I worked in the high-tech corporate world for 15 years, including Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. I led operations for a wide range of products and programs. I have an MBA from Regis University and a BA in Communications from Colorado State University.
A few notes below that have shaped who I am today follow.
- I grew up in a single parent home in a rural Midwest town.
- I worked and skied in Breckenridge, Colorado for two years (that’s where I fell in love with the fisherman).
- I spent a month in the Colorado Rocky Mountains on an Outward Bound mountaineering adventure (no shower for 30 days is rough).
- I paid for my entire college education by waiting tables through school.
- I backpacked through Europe.
- I’ve traveled to Asia twice.
- My first horse landed me in the emergency room — twice.
